Primogeniture: The right of succession belonging to the firstborn child, usually the eldest son.

Primogeniture follows the story of Claudia, a young girl in a dystopian past where all the male adults have been sent out to fight against an unknown, man eating beasts, leaving only the young boys and women to live in a small colony. Those that are left, the women, are expected to become housewives for the recuperating population of men. Curfews are put in place to keep everyone safe from the man-eating beasts, no one allowed out past 7PM, or else they are marked to be eaten the next day. And this happens to Claudia’s younger brother.

Claudia Apartment, Interior Moodboard

CLAUDIA’S Apartment

Many of the references were taken from 1960’s-1980’s USSR, Ukraine, and the Kowloon Walled city (China) for the interior and exterior of the apartment. This involved dull, yellowed colors, lots of family photos, simple lighting, old fashioned couches and furniture, and a lot of msc. decoration, such as cans, pots, pans, clocks, and clothes.

There were many parts that needed to be exaggerated as well, Catholic crosses and clocks.

Exterior/Town Moodboard

THE TOWN

To contrast with the inside of the apartment, there was a lot of ideation and process work for this. Inspiration ranged from Arseniy Kotov’s photography of Soviet Russia, to modern day Japanese apartment buildings, modern day North Korea, and Alexandra & Ainsworth.

THE SCHOOL

The school was decided to be the biggest building on the map. It towers over every other building, apartment, and store. It still needed to feel like a school, but mixed in with soviet (USSR) brutalist architecture and abandoned mid-west factories.
